Over 80% of marine pollution is caused by land-based activities. Entire marine ecosystems are undergoing fast change, from coral bleaching to sea level rise. Global warming is altering the ocean's chemistry and a variety of oceanic processes, endangering many kinds of marine creatures that are unable to adapt to higher temperatures. Overfishing is a major issue in a number of regions of the world. Conservationists argue for the establishment of large marine reserves to save the ocean's biodiversity. Plastics pose a significant and rising menace to the seas. Each year, an estimated 17.6 billion pounds of plastic seeps into the marine ecosystem from terrestrial sources—roughly the equivalent of throwing a garbage truck load of plastic into our seas every minute. Wenn du Moral hast, schütze die Korallen! Von Ocean Wilkins, Qld  Menschliche Aktivitäten gefährden die Gesundheit der Weltmeere. Über 80 % der Meeresverschmutzung wird durch Aktivitäten an Land verursacht. Ganze Meeresökosysteme unterliegen einem raschen Wandel, von der Korallenbleiche bis zum Anstieg des Meeresspiegels.   Die globale Erwärmung verändert die Chemie des Ozeans und eine Vielzahl von Prozessen im Meer und gefährdet viele Arten von Meereslebewesen, die sich nicht an die höheren Temperaturen anpassen können. Die Überfischung ist in einigen Regionen der Welt ein großes Problem. Naturschützer plädieren für die Einrichtung großer Meeresschutzgebiete, um die Artenvielfalt der Ozeane zu erhalten.   Kunststoffe stellen eine erhebliche und zunehmende Bedrohung für die Meere dar.
